Dear Altar Society members,
Fall is such a hopeful and beautiful time of year. We are certainly hoping to start feeling a little more of it here in Texas soon!
We have already had a wonderful start to the fall, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped make these events so wonderful and meaningful.
Jacqueline Mauer warmly welcomed our parish community with donuts at Sign-Up Sunday on September 13. Thank you, Jacqueline, for all your hard work, and thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and helped make the day such a success.
On September 22, Susan Kairis organized a lovely fall-inspired brunch following Mass. It was a truly special morning as we celebrated and blessed the officers of the Altar Society during a special Induction Mass celebrated by Fr. Tony, with our own Aurelia Corbitt serving as lector. A very special thank-you to Susan, Amy Hendricks, Pam Dalton, and Jennifer Siguenza, and Tina Noah who contributed their time, talents, and generosity to make the celebration so beautiful.
We were also blessed to have Tina Noah lead us through her Rosary Series on three Fridays in September. Her thoughtful presentation and devotion gave us a beautiful opportunity to deepen our faith and spend time together in prayer. As we move into October, we are excited to continue our Rosary Series in the Stained Glass Room on Fridays. We hope you will join us for these peaceful and meaningful opportunities to pray together.
On October 6, we will have our New Member Meet and Greet for Board Officers and New Members Only at Sheila Patrick’s home at 5:00 p.m. This will be a special opportunity for our new members to learn more about our wonderful Altar Society at Christ the King and to get to know one another.
Thank you to Susan Allred and Lisa Moriarty for transitioning our Mahjong Mondays back to the Christ the King Community Center. We had a wonderful group in September and will meet in Room 2 on October 12 and October 26. Please go online to register to play as well as to learn how to play with Erika Spinazzola.
I would also like to thank Lauri Miller, Stephanie Stange, and Sue Haley for bringing us a wonderful and inspiring program for our first General Program of the year. On October 27, we will have the privilege of hearing from Dr. Owen Lynch, professor at SMU, and Tyrone Day. Tyrone Day spent 26 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. While incarcerated, he took a gardening class—an experience that ultimately helped shape the path he would take after his release. Today, through farming and community work, he is helping to improve and strengthen his South Dallas neighborhood. His story of forgiveness, perseverance, transformation, and hope is one you will not want to miss. We hope you will make plans to join us for what promises to be an enlightening and inspirational program.
As we continue to look toward the remainder of the year, I encourage everyone to visit our website regularly to learn about the many exciting and inspirational events and programs we have planned. There are so many wonderful ways to participate, grow in faith, and connect with fellow members of the Altar Society.
One easy way to become more involved is to visit Your Profile under Members Only and sign up to serve on one of our committees. Your time, talents, ideas, and friendship are what make our organization so vibrant. If you need assistance or have questions, please contact Lorraine Hellinghausen at lhellinghausen@gmail.com.
Looking ahead to November, we are especially excited about our Advent Retreat on November 17. Our own Fr. Nick will be our presenter, and we look forward to this special opportunity to pause, reflect, and prepare our hearts for the Advent season.
Thank you for all that you do for our Altar Society and for our parish community. I am continually grateful for the generosity, faith, friendship, and enthusiasm that each of you brings. It is a privilege to serve alongside you, and I look forward to all that we will share together in the months ahead.
Wishing you and your families a beautiful, blessed, and joy-filled October. I hope to see you at many of our upcoming events!
With gratitude and warmest wishes,
Gina Rischard
